Stilton Cheese: How It Could Really Be Called One

Cheese is one of those diverse foods in the world, it can range from blue cheese, cheese with apples and even oatmeal covered cheese. Cheese types depend on where they are located there are those that have mustard seed and even ale – the Y Fenni. I would steer clear from that. I prefer the Blue Stilton among others.

Stilton Cheese reigns supreme for me. This type is only made in three English counties namely: Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The texture of this cheese varies from semi-soft, crumbly and does get creamier with increasing age. This cheese only has nine weeks minimum for it to age.

Here are the following criteria for a cheese to be called Blue Stilton:

• The cheese should be in its traditional cylindrical form.

• Made only in the three counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

• The cheese should be allowed to form its coat or crust.

• Pressing the cheese is not allowed.

• Have visible blue veins radiating from the center.

• There should be a taste profile only available in Stilton.

Only 35% of fat is found in this cheese, about 23% of protein and minimal amounts of salt.

I also found out that this is eaten with celery or even pears. This is added to flavor vegetable soup like cream of broccoli and celery. This cheese can be paired with crackers, biscuits and bread. Create a streak sauce out of this cheese and pair it with steak.Who would have thought it was possible? Try adding this over to green salads and it would surely be a lovely treat.

Oh my, writing about this makes me crave for more blue cheese on my cupboard. Writing about this makes me want to add some on my stash. I guess it is about time for me to buy some and load up before Christmas season comes. I confess, it was a lame alibi but nothing can stop me from enjoying my fill of cheese. This is the King of All Cheeses. Call me biased; this has always been my favorite cheese.

I need to see what else I might need before some impulse buying happens. I would prepare a lovely dinner when I get back. I added some celery and broccoli for a nice soup. A fresh salad would be perfect, id buy some later.I think the steak will go divine with the port I have left. While I continue with my list why not make one for yourself?
